Training and Back-up
Each expedition team receives a huge amount of training pre-expedition and back-up while they are overseas. This includes:
- 24 hour on-call back up from the Wilderness office (including 24-hour
on-call doctor)
- Teams, teachers and Leaders all carry out two UK training courses and
a Travelwise health and hygiene course pre-departure
- The Leader is in touch with us using registered call-in times while overseas
- We use reputable third party providers (for example rafting companies
overseas) who’ve been recommended or we’ve used before
- Thorough specific Risk Assessments and Emergency Response Plans are
put into place for each expedition team
- A pack of information is taken to the Embassy on the first day in-country
and we liaise with them over itinerary plans before departure
- Each country has an agent who is English-speaking and who understands our
ethos. They are on-call while teams are in-country to help out with any
problems.
- Ongoing destination recces are completed by our staff
- Each team carries a satellite phone and mobile phone while overseas
- Each team carries a comprehensive medical kit with them at all times while overseas.
