As the new school year is kicking off, the calendar is filling up fast. If you’re a teacher, Head of Year, or member of SLT thinking about getting your students outdoors this year, September is the best time to book.
Our on site bushcraft and team building days are often the best day of the school year. Because we can run it on your site, there are no pastoral logistics, no transport costs, no mountain of risk assessments — just a single day that can genuinely shift how a group of students work together, think about themselves, and show up for the rest of their yeargroup.
Here’s why now is the time to book, and what one day with Wilderness can do for your students.
Secondary age students respond brilliantly to short, high-intensity challenges. You don’t need the cost and time constraints of a week away to get real value from being outdoors — our well-designed day of navigation exercises, team problem-solving, and physical challenge can deliver a huge impact in a short space of time.
For Year 7s, a day together early in the year is a great way to help a new tutor group bond, building peer relationships at exactly the point when it matters. As it’s just one day, staff can slot it into the calendar without the headache of cover — making it easier to get sign-off and get it in the diary.
September and October are a great time to get teenagers outdoors:
For staff who haven’t run one of these before, here’s a typical shape for the day:
Every visit is shaped around what your school actually wants to get out of the day, so every itinerary is unique.
An on site day isn’t just a nice break from the classroom — it’s easy to justify against your Ofsted report card. Since November 2025, schools are graded across several evaluation areas, and a Wilderness onsite day visit speaks directly to them:
Because inspectors are looking for a clear, consistent story rather than a one-off tick-box activity, a day onsite is a brilliant piece of evidence of a wider personal development offer
We Make it Simple
We understand that the obstacle to booking trips usually isn’t enthusiasm — it’s logistics. That’s why we support schools through every step:
Our September and October availability is limited, and dates go quickly once term gets underway. If you’re thinking about a day for your students this term, get in touch now! Email info@wilderness-expertise.co.uk to check availability and start planning a day your students won’t forget.
